Frequently asked questions
Getting started
What is Longdusk?
A peaceful factory-building game for iPad. You crash-land on a dead moon, build a factory that mines, smelts and automates its way up a tech tree, and assemble the ship that takes you home. There is no combat. The challenge is keeping power and air going through the night.
Which devices does it run on?
Longdusk is made for iPad and needs iPadOS 17 or later.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Longdusk plays fully offline. You only need a connection to buy or restore the full expedition, or to redeem a code.
Is there a tutorial?
Yes. It starts on your first expedition, and you can replay it at any time from the menu (☰ ▸ Tutorial).
Free trial and the full expedition
What's in the free trial?
The first valley. You can research up to Electronics and Robotics, build and automate everything those unlock (including the regolith → silica → glass chain and circuits), and complete the trial's goal: keep a Survey Beacon at full power for an unbroken two hours of game time (longer on harder difficulties) to see past the dust.
What does Unlock Full Expedition add?
The rest of the research tree (the Fabricator, the Chem Reactor, the moonbuggy and jetsuit, and on to the ship's own systems), the far band beyond the valley, and the ship home and its launch.
How do I unlock it?
Open the menu (☰) and tap Unlock Full Expedition, or tap Unlock on any technology marked FULL in the research panel. It is a single one-time purchase. There are no ads and no subscriptions.
Will I lose my progress when I unlock?
No. The full expedition unlocks in place, on the save you're playing. Everything you've built carries on.
I bought it, but the game is still a trial.
Open the menu (☰) and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you bought it with (Settings ▸ your name ▸ Media & Purchases). If it still doesn't unlock, email us with the date of the purchase.
Can I use my purchase on another iPad?
Yes. It works on every iPad signed in to the same Apple Account. Open Longdusk there and it unlocks by itself; if it doesn't, tap Restore Purchases.
I asked a parent to approve the purchase. What happens now?
With Ask to Buy, the purchase waits for approval. Once it's approved, the expedition unlocks by itself, even mid-game.
I have a code. How do I redeem it?
Open the menu (☰) and tap Redeem Code.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a refund goes through, the game returns to the trial, and everything you built stays where it is.
Playing
Everything slows down at dusk. What's wrong?
That's a brownout. Heliostats make no power at night, so your factory runs on what your accumulators banked during the day. Build more accumulators (and heliostats to fill them), and the factory will hum through the night.
Why can't I build somewhere?
The message tells you why:
- Too far from base for the robots: plant an outpost closer to claim the ground.
- Too far — go there to build it: walk closer; you build within arm's reach.
- Under the dust: the far band is veiled until a Survey Beacon has seen through it.
- Beyond the valley: in the free trial, the far band is part of the full expedition.
My Survey Beacon's survey keeps starting over.
The survey needs unbroken hours at full power, counted on the game's day clock: two on standard, four on hard, six on extreme. Any shortfall, even for a moment at dusk, restarts it. Tap the beacon to see how long it has held, the load against generation, and how much is banked. Usually the answer is more heliostats, or more accumulators if the hold runs into the evening. Starting the survey early in the day gives it the most sunlight.
Can I speed the game up?
Yes. Use the speed control in the corner of the screen: 1×, 2× or 3×.
I placed something by mistake.
Tap Undo straight away to take the order back with its materials. You can also cancel work the robots haven't finished, or remove a finished machine for a full refund.
Saves
How is my game saved?
Automatically, every few moments and whenever you leave the app. There's no save button to remember.
Can I move my save to another iPad?
Saves live on the iPad you play on and aren't synced between devices. They're included in your iPad's iCloud or computer backup, so restoring a backup to a new iPad brings your expedition with it.
How do I start over?
Open the menu (☰) and tap New Expedition. This replaces your current expedition. Your purchase is not affected.
